NZeTA Cost 2026: All New Zealand eTA Fees Explained
April 20, 2026 New Zealand eTA Articles

How much does the New Zealand eTA cost in 2026? This guide breaks down the NZeTA fee, the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL), and what you get for your money.

How Much Does the NZeTA Cost in 2026?

The New Zealand eTA (NZeTA) application fee is a one-time online payment that grants eligible travellers electronic travel authorisation for up to 2 years of multiple-entry visits. All application fees include the New Zealand government's International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL), a mandatory charge that helps fund conservation initiatives and tourism infrastructure throughout the country. Australian citizens and permanent residents are exempt from the IVL.

Applicants can choose from three processing options based on their travel requirements:

Regular Processing – USD 125

  • Processing time: 48–72 hours
  • Valid for 2 years
  • Multiple entries allowed
  • Stay up to 90 days per visit (up to 6 months for British nationals)

Emergency Processing – USD 145

  • Processing time: 24–48 hours
  • Valid for 2 years
  • Multiple entries allowed
  • Stay up to 90 days per visit (up to 6 months for British nationals)

Express Processing – USD 165

  • Processing time: 12–24 hours
  • Valid for 2 years
  • Multiple entries allowed
  • Stay up to 90 days per visit (up to 6 months for British nationals)

Regardless of the processing option selected, every approved NZeTA provides the same travel benefits, including 2-year validity and multiple-entry access to New Zealand.

What Does the NZeTA Fee Cover?

The NZeTA application fee covers the processing and handling of your application, including:

  • Secure submission and verification of your personal and passport details
  • Processing of your photograph and eligibility declarations
  • Customer support throughout your application
  • Email delivery of your approval confirmation

The International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL)

The IVL was introduced by the New Zealand government in 2019 and is currently set at NZD $35 per person per application. It is non-refundable and must be paid as part of every NZeTA application.

Who Is Exempt From the IVL?

  • Australian citizens and Australian permanent residents
  • Citizens of Pacific Island Forum member countries who require an NZeTA
  • Travellers holding a New Zealand residence class visa

NZeTA for Multiple Travellers

Each individual traveller requires their own separate NZeTA application. There is no family or group discount — the full fee applies per person, including children.

Is the NZeTA Fee Refundable?

The NZeTA application fee is non-refundable once your application has been submitted and processed, regardless of whether it is approved or declined. For this reason, ensure your application is accurate and complete before submitting.

NZeTA Cost vs Standard New Zealand Visitor Visa

The NZeTA is significantly cheaper and faster than a standard New Zealand visitor visa. A visitor visa application can take several weeks and requires considerably more documentation. For eligible citizens of visa waiver countries, the NZeTA is always the preferred option.

How to Pay for Your NZeTA

Payment is made securely online as the final step of your application. Accepted payment methods include:

  • Visa credit and debit cards
  • Mastercard credit and debit cards
  • American Express

All transactions are processed over an encrypted SSL connection. Your card details are never stored after processing.
